Groceries and Coupons

January 6, 2010 at 6:17 am (Food, Husband, Shopping)

My husband is on board more than I ever thought he would be.  It could be the cash, but he seems really sincere about it.  He’s also overweight, perhaps more so than myself.  Part of my motivation for wanting to lose the weight and live a healthier, more active lifestyle is to set a good example and encourage him to get healthier too.

We’re not only trying to lose weight, but were also on a serious budget because we’re a one income household right now.  He went to the store the other day to get our groceries for the week and had cut all the coupons out of this week’s inserts. (Did anyone else notice there were 5 inserts!!) He brought home loads of healthy snacks and saved over $15! I was amazed!  Best part, most of the stuff he brought home was stuff I actually would eat, which with the healthy stuff is not always the case.

Keep pulling for me!

The First Weigh In

January 3, 2010 at 7:28 pm (Beginnings)

I went over to my parent’s home last night to see just how bad things had gotten.  At 5 feet, 7 inches, I’m currently at 280. Ouch!  On the bright side, this will be the last time that I’ll see that number.  Contracts have been signed and the work has begun.

Wish me luck!

By the way…

The rules totally changed.  I now have to lose 60 pounds by July 1 to get the cash.  Which really just means I’ll be getting more cash in the long run!

Day Before Day One

January 1, 2010 at 8:23 am (Beginnings, Motivation)

So I’m going to lose weight, I’m really going to do it this time.  This year, I will turn 30 and I won’t allow myself to move to the next decade of my life with this body.

Last year, around this time, I successfully lost around 20 pounds over two months just by dieting and exercising, but got lazy and let it all come back.  I kept trying to remotivate myself to get back to it and the time has come to get started again.

This time, things are different.  A simple talk about the Biggest Loser on the way to a family Christmas celebration turned into a challenge.  My parents and husband and I were marveling and how largest contestant (until this Tuesday when the new show appears,) Shay, was offered $100 per pound for her weight loss between finales.  At that point, my father came up with a challenge for my mother.  He promised to give her $75 for each pound she lost between January 2 and July 1, 2010.  The catch, she would have to meet a goal loss and she would receive the first half in July 2010 and the second half for everything she kept off in July 2011.

My mom turned around and made a similar offer to me.  $50 per pound, $25 this year and $25 for all that’s kept off.  My goal loss for the next 6 months is 50 pounds.  I’ll be doing it naturally, without purchasing special meals, drugs, or memberships of any kind.  Just eating correctly and exercising more.  I’ll be engaging the support of my trusty dog, Lenny, to get me out and about and my trusty treadmill which I’ve looked at for the past few months to get me up and moving again.

Today, I’ve been watching shows on TLC about super morbidly obese people and their journeys.  My biggest determination is to never let myself or a member of my family walk towards that path.

This is it, this is my chance to change my life.  I hope you’ll join me on my journey.

Best,

Margy
